Marvel Confidential has recently begun receiving reports that a
disproportionate number of Genoshan nationals are tied to a burgeoning
business model which has started springing up across the country. “Mall
Kiosk” carts and stands have begun to dot the suburban (and some urban) mall landscapes, manned by pushy salesmen and woman
offering cheap goods in a bargaining manner.
“Jeremy,” a Genoshan in his early-20s, spent this past holiday season manning a “Super Special Soap” kiosk in a mall in suburban St.
Paul. In the last couple years, Jeremy, as well as hundreds of other illegal Genoshans, have become the dominant population of young
people working at mall kiosks all over the country. Jeremy is not his real name, but he has an interesting story to tell, one he would only
tell upon condition of anonymity.

“There are no jobs in Genosha… at least not for normal people.” Jeremy states plainly.
“Most people don’t know this, but normal people can barely find work there. All we have
left are service industries… coffees, convenience stores, department stores, fast food…
all the real jobs are done by the mutates.”
According to Jeremy, Mutates are mindless drones who perform most of the work on the
tiny island. “They’re creepy, man… they have no personalities, no persona… they’re just
blank slates.”
Marvel Confidential inquired with several of our reliable sources in the region. While
attempting to shed some light on Jeremy’s claims, our sources hesitatingly insinuated,
and keep in mind this is unconfirmed and hearsay only at this time, that Genosha has a
secret anti-mutant program which has been institutionalized at the highest levels of the
government. When contacted, the Genoshan ambassador to the United States laughed
and stated, “We do not comment on wild conspiracy theories and nonsense.”
According to our sources, however, the tiny island has been able to become the
economic worldwide powerhouse that it has become over the last few decades
by literally enslaving a vast mutant population of workers. How this is done is
still a mystery, as well as why “Jeremy” and other human Genoshans refer to
them as “mutates” and not mutants.
But back to the matter at hand. “So those of us who are human and growing up
there, we have to leave. There’s nothing there for us.” Jeremy informed us
that it is actually a very easy process for Genoshans to sneak into the United
States. “You can go on these message boards and find ads asking if you want
to work in the U.S. You send an email with your contact information to the
address in the ad and someone gets back to you within 48 hours. You go to a
meeting in a non-descript building in downtown Hammer Bay and before you
know it you’re hidden on a container ship headed to the U.S.”

“Keilee” is another illegal
Genohsan who has been working
at a Kiosk in the Manhattan Mall
near Macy’s. “It’s better than in
Genosha! This is New York for
God’s sake!” Keilee has a story
similar to Jeremy’s. “When you get
here it’s late at night and you
generally dock at deserted areas
near New Orleans or some other
southern city.
“There’s an entire Genoshan network here in the United States. We were picked up
immediately and taken to a pretty nice apartment. We stayed there for two days and then
four of us were given train tickets to New York. Once we got to New York, we were met at
Penn Station by another man who brought us to our permanent apartments in downtown
Manhattan.”
The Genoshan population explosion in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, an area known
as “Alphabet City” to the locals, began about 10 years ago. Young Genoshans began to
flood the neighborhood after word started spreading back home at the vast improvement
of quality of life young Genoshans were experiencing in New York, not to mention the
freedom that this type of work provides. Jeremy informs us that “even though Genosha is
such a rich country, the power structure is skewed towards the wealthy. Genosha is the perfect example of ‘if you have money, then you
make money.’ If not, you’re screwed.”
Echoing Jeremy, Keilee says, “It was
impossible to find work… unless of course
you’re a ‘rich kid.’ They get all the good
executive and office jobs because of their
family connections. And on top of that,
normal humans aren’t even allowed to work
regular jobs like factories or warehouses.
The hyper-rich use the mutates to make
themselves richer and the rest of us get to
work at McDonald’s! If you want an
explanation for the huge influx of young
Genoshans to the U.S. recently, that’s it.”

“Thankfully the expatriate Genoshan community is very close knit and
we all try to help and take care of each other. When the world finally
finds out what exactly is going on in Genosha, we’ll be glad we have each other. We'll need the support of our fellow countrymen.“
Jeremy takes a longer than usual drag on his cigarette and looks around the room as if he’s being watched. One has to wonder what
horrible secrets hidden in Genosha could possibly turn the whole world against the nation and its citizens.
Marvel Confidential has been unable to confirm any of the claims made during our interviews. Rest assured, however, that we will
continue our work to expose whatever it is hidden at the center of this mass exodus.
