A dark day has dawn on America and the world. All night long reports of a massive
battle which was destroying central Manhattan had been circulating around the
globe. As the sun rose this morning, the true nature of what had occurred finally

Details, at the moment are sketchy, but what we have been able to learn is that a pitched battle began last night in New York’s Central
Park between a monstrous entity that is being referred to by those “in the know” as ‘Onslaught’. Who or what this being is… or was… is
unknown to Marvel Confidential at this time, but what we can tell you is that sources close to the government’s investigation of exactly
what occurred suggest that it was a psychic creation of a powerful mutant, who, at this point will remain nameless, for libel’s sake.

Marvel Confidential has obtained redacted top secret documents which speculate on
the causes of this crisis we are trying to unravel. These documents, one of which
appears to have been drafted by the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff General John
Shalikashvili, state that an unnamed ‘Mutant X’ [blacked out in the original document]
had “lost control” of his psychic/kinetic powers and unleashed a being of pure energy
from deep within himself. Witnesses at the scene told MC, before they were moved
away, that this creature that the heroes were battling, had armor which looked like a
distorted version of the armor worn by the mutant Magneto. However, the documents
from the Joint Chiefs do not mention Magneto.
Included with these documents were several screen captures taken from the
intercepted video broadcast from Westchester County. The document to the right
gives more detail regarding the video. The document redacts the information
regarding who is making the broadcast, however, the screen capture clearly shows
the mutant member of the X-Men, Phoenix. The origination of the video, as well as
the destination and who the intended recipients were is currently under investigation
by agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
